Vietnam's Top Seafood Import Markets in 2026

Vietnam's seafood imports reached $2.13 billion in the first 8 months of 2026. India remains the largest supplier, while the US shows the strongest growth.

Data from the General Department of Customs and the Ministry of Industry and Trade reveals that Vietnam's total seafood import turnover reached $2.13 billion in the first eight months of 2026, marking a slight decline of 1.02% compared to the same period in 2025. Despite the marginal drop in total value, the supply structure exhibited a sharp polarization in growth rates among different nations.

Top 5 Seafood Suppliers to Vietnam

The top five markets—India, Indonesia, Norway, Japan, and China—collectively account for 58.13% of the industry's total import value. The top three suppliers are:

  • India: Remained the largest supplier with a turnover of $325.86 million (up 0.23%), accounting for 15.28% of the country's total seafood imports.

  • Indonesia: Ranked second at $252.36 million, holding an 11.83% share (down 17.94% year-on-year).

  • Norway: Secured the third position with $227.83 million, holding a 10.68% share (down 3.06%).

Market Divergence: Surging and Declining Suppliers

The 8-month import landscape highlights significant shifts within the supply chain:

  • High-Growth Markets: The United States demonstrated the most remarkable breakthrough, growing by 33.87% over 8 months (with an impressive 45.41% spike in August alone). This was followed by China (up 20.73%) and Japan (up 15.43%).

  • Declining Markets: The steepest drops in turnover were seen from South Korea (-25.45%), the Philippines (-22.11%), Taiwan (-21.14%), and Indonesia (-17.94%). Other sources like Russia and Chile also contracted by 8.27% and 5.03%, respectively.

Export Highlights: Aiming for the $12 Billion Milestone

On the flip side, seafood exports delivered highly positive results. The total export value after eight months reached $7.99 billion, reflecting an 11.8% year-on-year growth.

According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), this solid performance brings the industry closer to its $12 billion target for 2026. The primary growth driver is the robust demand for shrimp, pangasius, and crabs in China and the broader Asian region, which has significantly offset the decline in orders from the US and Europe.
